THE HARTLEPOOL MONKEY

PART THREE

JUDGE FOR YOURSELF.

The fact that the men who rescued the creature were deliberately ridiculed by the authorities is not a surprise. Mis-information and ridicule have been used as a tool since the beginning of time. Witness the story of Adam and Eve in the Holy Bible, Eve said "Of course you can eat the Forbidden Fruit! Don't be silly, it will do you no harm", look where that got Adam. In more recent times think of the ridicule poured onto Clive Sinclair as soon as he revealed his C5 electric vehicle. Oil and Motor companies soon orchestrated a campaign to protect their trade! Whenever someone wants to hide the truth, a favourite ploy is to make the person who is telling it look a fool. Even to this day the policy is maintained, often when I pressed officials for information on the "Monkey" case I would be told "Get lost you Hartlepool nutter" (or words to that effect).

What about the body? Nowhere in any version of the legend have I came across mention of the dead body, be it French spy, monkey, or alien. In all cases of hanging the victims remains have got to be disposed of, normally after being exhibited for a few days hanging on the gallows, which serves as a warning to other potential wrongdoers, they were buried in ground that has not been blessed by the church, and the story always tells us this. But surely the "Monkey" would be a special case, with everyone wanting to see for themselves the remains of something of so dubious appearance. It does not make sense that it just vanished.

In Hartlepool, tales abound of secret tunnels which lead from the town, down to the shore. They are said to have been used by the inhabitants of a Monastery that stood on the site in ancient times. I do not know if this is true, but it would certainly fit in with the "Secret Account" of events. (I will make no puns about "Monks" maturing into "Monk-i-e-s").

Then there is the matter of the wreckage. In those days anything that was washed up on the shore and could be used in any way, even to burn on the fire, was swiftly taken by the locals (was there no sea coal in those days?) Coastal dwellers were even known to light beacons to decoy ships onto rocks, where they would be wrecked. (Of course the gentle Hartlepudlians would not do such a thing!) The locals would then take everything that could be used in any way, even to the frayed ropes which could be recycled or used as fuel. Why then was this particular wreck taken to a spot south of Seaton Carew and buried? Why was it not left for the local population to salvage? Why did it need to be guarded and people kept away from it? What dark secrets were buried with this wreckage?.

Is it a coincidence that in the late 1960s when methods of detecting nuclear radiation were becoming available to the general public, the government decided to build a nuclear power station on that particular site? Why a nuclear one when the Durham coal fields were so close at hand with supplies of coal to last hundreds of years? Surely it would make more economic sense for it to be coal fired. It would have secured many more jobs in an area of high unemployment, thus making the government of the day more popular. Why lose votes, why waste money on technology which was as yet not proven. Is there something under the ground near Seaton Carew that we are not supposed to know?.

MORE THAN HARTLEPOOL.

Other towns and villages have their stories of monkeys being hung, all of them round about the turn of the nineteenth century. Are they just coincidences or is there more to them than mere folk tales? The fact that they were all within a short number of years would seem to suggest that the same policy of ridicule was used many times over. A tried and tested method of fooling the people!

The late 1700s and early 1800s saw the birth of the industrial revolution, a time of invention and discovery as never before witnessed by mankind. In the forefront of these great advances was the north east of England, not least Hartlepool, with it's ship building and heavy industry. The north east was the cradle of the great railways, iron and steel works abounded, coal mines, shipbuilding, you name it, the north east did it!

Where did the technology for all of these great innovations come from? After centuries of slow, gradual change, why all of a sudden such massive strides and advancement? Could it be that we had some help. Some revealed knowledge from somewhere. And how strange it all happened just after a spate of "Monkey hanging".

TIME TO KNOW THE TRUTH.

The history of Hartlepool is long and proud, but the greatest chapter has been blotted out by authorities in our capital city. We have a right to our place amongst the great towns of the world--yes, the world!. Why should we be robbed of our heritage. For far too long people have joked at our expense "WHO HUNG THE MONKEY", to which I hardly need tell you the standard reply, "What's wrong, is your father missing"
All Hartlepudlians should be proud of our past. Let the whole world know the truth about "The Monkey".

Keep your head held high, but please-
